SirsiDynix Symphony Upgrade Tonight
There will be a Sirsi Dynix Symphony upgrade tonight starting
at 10:30 PM. Anticipated downtime for the system will be four hours. The
Digital Strategies (IT) team will be remotely upgrading all of the workstations
that have the Workflows client overnight. Please leave all computers with
Workflows software ON with the Workflows Client closed overnight so that the
software can be upgraded.
When you arrive at your location on Wednesday morning, please
bring up and test your Workflows software as soon as possible. Contact the
Digital Strategies (IT) Helpdesk if you have trouble bringing up the Workflows
software.
The new version of workflows will be 3.5.0.0. Your desktop
icon for the new client should look like this:
Please call or email me and the Digital Strategies (IT)
Helpdesk if you have any questions.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we upgrade our
system for optimal service.
Sincerely,
Judith Hiott, Chief

Door Count Week - July 26 - August 1, 2015
Hi,
We’re going to do
our first Door Count week of FY16 next week and it will run from Sunday, July
26th through Saturday, August 1st. We use this
information to help us understand what the busiest times are at each library
during a week and how much use our in-house materials are getting used. Please
assist in the following ways:
1.) Provide an hourly
count of your visitors during the hours the library is open, either by a manual
count or checking and recording the gate count hourly.
2.) Manually count all
in-house materials use.
Your template for
entering Door Count information for your library can be found on the g:drive.
Just click on this link and select your location: G:\Statistics\DOOR COUNT . Be sure to use the “JUL-15”
spreadsheet.
For your records,
the remaining Door Count weeks for this fiscal year will take place on the
following dates. [I’ll be sending out
the reminder notice 1-2 weeks prior to the start of each]
1) October 18 – 24,
2015
2) April 17 – 23,
2016
As always, if you
have any questions or concerns or problems with the spreadsheets please email or
call me. I’m here to help.
Thanks so
much,
Mary

Weeding Workshop Training Opportunities - 07/17/15
Hello everyone.
I want to take a moment to make you all aware of a training opportunity on Friday, 07/17/15. The Library Materials Services – Collection Development and Centralized Floating teams will offer two Hands-on Weeding Workshops for Houston Public Library staff members. The workshops will address multiple criteria for weeding, including CREW, and staff who attend will have the opportunity to practice what they learn by engaging in a weeding activity at the host location. The workshops will be held 9:30 am – 11:30 am at Heights Neighborhood Library and Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library. Each session will accommodate up to 20 participants, and attendees will receive two hours of training credit for their participation.
To register for one of the workshop sessions, go to the training calendar in the HPL Staff Training Portal (http://training.houstonlibrary.org/calendar-node-field-event-date-time/month), choose the session you would like to attend, and complete the online registration form. Be sure to get your manager’s permission before registering. Instructions for how to register are available at http://training.houstonlibrary.org/register.
Thanks!
